Meet the Team — Hassan Magdy

In our latest instalment of Meet the Team we chat to software engineer Hassan Magdy about achieving his childhood ambition to work in tech and making tricky vaccination coding challenges look easy…

Q: What made you choose a career in tech?

A: I always wanted to be a software engineer. In high school I was crazy about computers! I loved fixing my friends’ PCs. Then I discovered my passion for coding while studying computer science at college.

Q: What’s the most rewarding part of your role at Cegedim Rx?

A: I’ve been working with the team for the last five years now, but I never get tired of hearing how our systems are helping pharmacies and their patients.

Q: What are you currently working on at Cegedim Rx?

A: We’re developing a new workflow for Pharmacy Services ahead of the Autum flu and covid vaccination season. I’m involved in the whole cycle of software development from scoping to design, production and roll out. For this project we’ve had lots of different teams working together including UI, UX, product, testing, developers and the NHS team. Part of my job is coordinating between all those teams, understanding what everyone needs and, with a team of developers, creating the code to bring it all to life.

Q: What part of this project are you most proud of so far?

A: In our new workflow, during a vaccination the pharmacist will be able to click on a button and the patient’s immunisation history and medical information will be seamlessly served up. This may seem like a simple process, but to get this to this point takes a lot of development to bring together data from different sources. When it comes together though it’s a proud moment. Teamwork had a big part to play here. We communicate in a respectful way and listen to everyone – that's what makes our team great.

Q: When you aren’t busy coding, what do you like to do for fun?

A: I’m still at the computer - I love gaming! But I’m trying to reduce my screentime too with a spot of padel. I’m also a big foodie. I love to eat out and try new places. Burgers are my favourite, but Indian food is a very close second.
