Meet the Team — James Crampton

In our latest instalment of Meet the Team we talk to James Crampton, business development director as he gears up for his fifteenth year at The Pharmacy Show this October and shares how he helps customers plan for the future with confidence.
Q. Tell us more about your role as a business development director?

A. My team looks after our key accounts - making sure they’re supported, heard and happy - as well as working together to bring new customers on board.

The pharmacy groups we work with often have lots of stakeholders involved, so it’s important to build trust and really understand their needs.

At its heart, the role is about education and working in close partnership - sharing what’s on the horizon, giving visibility of our roadmap, and helping customers plan for the future with confidence.

Q. What does a typical day look like?

A. I’m on the road lots – spending time with customers. Some days are about helping existing customers resolve challenges, other days I’ll be showing new customers how we can help them.

I make a point of staying close to my accounts, speaking to many of them pretty much daily. Offering support and making sure they know we’re on the journey with them.

Q. What’s the best piece of customer feedback you've ever received?

A. One that really stuck with me came through an NPS survey, where a customer, Yogesh Patel from Herbert and Shrive, gave us 10/10 and commented about the excellent account management and support he had received. That meant a lo

We’ve worked very closely with Yogesh and the team to help him establish a new dispensing workflow. The results have been fantastic for him and the business.

Q. What skills help you succeed in your role?

A. I’ve been in the industry for about 15 years. When I first started, we were still working with paper scripts. My first sales role in the sector was selling EPS release 2 – so I’ve seen first-hand how much the industry has evolved

Things move quickly in pharmacy, so it’s important to keep learning, stay close to regulation changes and government initiatives, and help customers understand what those changes mean for them.

Q. 15 years in the industry also means 15 trips to The Pharmacy Show. What’s do you enjoy the most about the event?

A. Definitely the social part of the show. It’s a chance to catch up with customers, reconnect with people I may not have seen in a while, and spend time with colleagues.

It’s also a great opportunity to show more people how our software works. I’ve got real confidence in the product, and it’s always rewarding to see something click with a customer when they realise how it can help them.

Q. What attracted you to join the Cegedim Rx team?

A. Cegedim Rx’s vision for the future. I could see the direction and when Tracey Robertson joined as MD, she brought a fresh perspective and real energy for change. She encouraged us to think differently about everything – from how we support customers to how our tech works.

Q. When you’re not working how do you like to spend your free time?

A. I’m a big sports fan. I’ve been a Bristol Rovers season ticket holder for many years, for my sins! I’m also a keen darts player. My personal best checkout is 153.

Come and meet James, and the whole of the Cegedim Rx team at C30 at The Pharmacy Show between 12 – 13 October at the Birmingham NEC.
